Conservation Committee Announces Spring Projects!
ADOPT-A-ROAD CLEAN-UP
Our next scheduled Adopt-a-Road clean-up project will be held on Friday, April 16. We will meet in the parking lot at Dr. Conner’s office on Rock House Road at 10:30. The work is not very strenuous and usually takes about 45 minutes to complete, then we will head someplace fun for lunch afterward. Ideally, we prefer ten people for this quarterly project. MAY MEETING/PLANT SALE
The Conservation Committee will sponsor the May meeting (May 6,2010). In lieu of a speaker, we will again hold a spring plant sale/silent auction. To participate, we ask that everyone please bring a plant or some garden-related object that can be placed in our silent auction for purchase by another DWC member. Proceeds from this year’s sale will benefit The Lumpkin County Animal Shelter’s SNAP (spay and neuter) program. As most of us know, the population of starving, homeless animals in Lumpkin County is way out of control. The shelter has experienced the highest number of animals ever as many have been forced to give up their pets because of economic conditions. One way we can help hold the animal population to a manageable level and reduce the number of animals that are forced to be euthanized, is by providing low-cost spay/neuter options for those adopting an animal from our Lumpkin County Animal Shelter. The SNAP program provides spay/neuter services for dogs and cats at a cost of $25 per animal. In addition to a plant, if you are able, please bring canned cat or dog food or cleaning supplies (cleaning rags or bleach are always needed) which we will donate to PAWS. If you want to make an additional donation to the SNAP program, we will also be happy to add that to the funds we make from the plant sale.
