A NOTE FROM BRITA

February Sweethearts

To all the brave, wonderful ladies who courageously faced the elements to join us for our New Member Orientation, I thank you! To our wonderful Board Members who dressed for the occasion in their very “finest” and brought wit and whimsy to our meeting, I thank you! To all our wonderful New Members who brought enthusiasm and interest to our wonderful club, I thank you! You are all truly our February Sweethearts for all you do and for all you have accomplished! You made an important meeting a great deal of fun!

We truly wish to honor all our wonderful 2009 new members: Lynn Alderman, Audrey Crowley, Dea Devereaux, Debra Ford, Sharon Kridel, Mary McClendon, Pamela Miller, and Connie Thompson. Thank you for bringing renewed leadership and dedication to our membership.

A huge thank you also to Lana Hootselle, our 1st VP and Membership Chairman, for creating a beautiful and delicious dinner with the help of many of our Board Members. It was really wonderful!

Also, I want to thank Marge Jones, our 2nd VP, for taking on the daunting task of keeping track of all our volunteer hours. She has come up with a terrific way for all of us to record our hours. This will then result in the immense undertaking by Marge to document all those hours and the programs that we develop.

The Public Affairs Committee is taking on a new project this year by making pillowcases for the residents of NOA and possibly the Gold City Assisted Living Facility. All DWC members are welcome to help in this effort. We will be having an instructional meeting Tuesday, March 2 at 10:00. Please call me at 867-9054 for further information. If you don’t think you can sew, but you would like to make a donation of fabric and/or time in cutting out the material, we can certainly use your help as well.

Since the horrible earthquake in Haiti, The General Federation of Women’s Clubs has established a Haitian Disaster Relief effort through the GFWC Disaster Relief Fund. There are five recognized donor partners: CARE, UNICEF, Heifer International, Plan USA, and Save the Children. If you would like to make a donation through the GFWC you can use a credit card over the phone at 202-347-3168 or send a check to GFWC /noting Haitian Disaster or check out the GFWC web site. Your donation will definitely be used wisely and will make a difference.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Unfortunately, our incomparable Ronda Davis has resigned from the chairmanship of the Public Affairs Committee. She has taken on the continuing task of traveling with her husband, Charlie, as he does consulting work in FL. Ronda is not sure when she will be back in Dahlonega to stay. It is certainly difficult to fill Ronda's shoes, but we are looking for another dedicated member to take over this position of working with the Veteran's Affair Committee, Flags and Markers, NOA, and community safety programs.
Please let me know if you can help with this endeavor.
Thank you. Brita Borden 867-9054

Newsflash

Yesterday all women in the U.S. went out on strike in a bid to get more satisfaction and better responses. A spokes person said that the need for better response was due to some fool increasing the front-side use of their brain. In the future, brains will be told to slow down in residential thoughts.
